Taoiseach's Residence

International competition for the design of a State Guest House and Residence for the Taoiseach [Prime Minister] of Ireland, Phoenix Park, Dublin : 1979

One of 15 entries shortlisted from 98 submissions. [perspectives by John Menage].

The main international judge was Aldo van Eyck from the Netherlands.

The competition was won by Evans and Shalev, but was subsequently abandoned. Commended entries included de Blacam and Meagher, Julyan Wickham and Desmond Lavery, and Moore Meagher Farrell & Cleary. An entry by a young Zaha Hadid didn’t make the cut.

This entry was included in an exhibition at the Irish Architecture Archive to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the competition - December 2019 - February 2020.
